Does making phone calls make you anxious? ๐ฌ
Are you nervous that you might come across asย salesyย to the person you are calling?
You’re not alone. That used to be me, too. These are all too common experiences business owners and entrepreneurs have.
But I found a way to finally overcome that anxiety (and it’s easier than you think!).
DO THIS BEFORE YOUR NEXT CALL
The key? Getting in the right mindset and energy before your call. Why? Because the call starts before you even pick up the phone!
And it starts with your intention. Get clear on what your intention is for the person you are calling.
- Is it to take their money?
- Is it to convince them to buy your product so you get a commission on the sale?
- Is it to add value to their lives and make a positive difference?
If you are reading this, your intention is certainly because you want toย serveย them with the unique value you have.
Here’s the thing: every one of us has value to offer. The mistake I used to make, and maybe you can relate, was focusing on what I needed or wanted from the call. I’d think, “Oh man, I’m going to bother this person,” or “I’m interrupting their day.”
My mindset was all about me taking something.
But the truth is, if you have value to offer, if you’re genuinely aiming to help people in some way, or to expand your reach so you can provide that value to more people, then your call isn’t an interruption โ it’s a GIFT.
Let that sink in.
Every time you reach for your phone, remind yourself of what you’re about to give to the person on the other end of the line.
- What problem can you help them solve?
- What opportunity can you offer?
- What is the GAIN that comes from interacting with you and potentially working with you?
When you approach calls as an act of giving, it completely changes the dynamic.
It naturally becomes less about your needs and MORE about how you can be of service.
So, before your next call, take a breath and really connect with the value you provide. Understand what you’re offering. Once that becomes clear, picking up the phone becomes so much easier. Every call transforms into an opportunity to give something meaningful.
And when you truly believe that, why wouldn’t you make the call to help more people? Just something to think about.
Here are three simple things you can do to get yourself in the right headspace before making your calls:
- ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค ๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ “๐๐๐” ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ. Jot down a quick list of clients you’ve really helped. What positive changes did they experience from working with you? Don’t worry about perfect sentences โ just let those success stories and the value you provided flow onto the page.
Those words your happy clients shared? They’re gold! Have them easily accessible. Before you dial, take a moment to read a few. Let their appreciation remind you of the positive impact you have and reinforce that your calls are truly valuable.
Write “My calls are gifts” on a big piece of paper and stick it where you’ll see it. Every time you’re about to pick up the phone, that simple message will help you remember what you’re offering the person on the other end.
Make your calls more meaningful by focusing on the value you provide. Connect with purpose on your next call and you’ll find it a little easier to make a few phone calls.
