“There’s always another way. Don’t keep hitting a wall hoping it will break.”
– Steve Napolitan
Today, I’m super excited because I’m going to tell you how to quit and win!
You probably think I’m crazy right? Because a lot of superstars, athletes, prominent business people, philanthropists, and innovators will tell you this:
Champions don’t quit.
You’re never supposed to quit right? You want to keep going, keep pushing harder, and eventually, you’ll reach that level of success?
But let me tell you this right now, there are no hard rules to success. And success sometimes requires us to challenge the normal way most people think about things. It’s about being fluid like water.
So, here’s the thing: the more times you quit, and the quicker you quit, the faster you’re going to get where you want.
Stay with me while I explain. I don’t mean you should quit your dream. You never want to quit your dream. You want to have a clear vision of the life you want for you and the world.
However, you want to quit your plans that aren’t working especially when they don’t work, time after time after time. Like Bruce Lee says (and I’m paraphrasing), you want to take what’s useful, throw away what’s not. And it’s not just a one-time thing. You must assess this as you go along.
As you know, I’m the More Business More Life guy. I don’t do the “More Work More Life” thing. I learned this the hard way. I was grinding away to build my multimillion-dollar ad agency in my early years in business, and every time there was a problem, I just kept grinding harder.
It was like I was hitting my head on a rock, thinking that if I hit it harder I would eventually breakthrough!
Eventually, my health gave way, I lost time with my family, and I lost sight of the dream—to have the time freedom and money to spend with my family! What I really needed to do was quit what wasn’t working. That means I needed to:
Quit working so hard!
You can find out more about that story in my book Capture Clients Close Deals. For now, let’s continue with this topic.
When your plan is not working and has consistently shown not to work, you need to quit. Here are the steps:
- Stop what you are doing, zoom out of your situation, and take a few deep breaths.
- Take a log of what you have been doing, and all the results that come with that, whether those results are poor results or great results.
- Now, write down what you notice is working well.
- Now, write down what you notice isn’t working so well.
- Ask yourself the question, “What would I like to see more of instead?” and write your answers.
- Ask yourself the question, “How can I create more of what I want, and who or what can help me with that?” Write down your answers.
For me, when I actually stopped and quit my plan because breaking the rock was not working, I actually earned more money by doing less and saying no to things!
There’s always another way. Don’t keep hitting a wall hoping it will break. Look for another way around.
Before Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb, I think he went through thousands of filament designs that just didn’t work. He didn’t force the ones that didn’t work to work. He just tested them, took it as feedback, and then invented another one until he got the one that worked for the light bulb. He quit so many times. However, he didn’t quit the dream. He continued his path to have that light.
For him, that light was his dream. Let your dream be your light. Never quit it. But, be willing to quit things that aren’t serving you on your path, learn from what didn’t work, realign yourself, and continue forward.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s episode. And please, do comment on the post below, or ask any questions.

(P.S. What have you been doing consistently for the past few years, that just isn’t working?)

Very nice video and content not bad either.
Thanks Victor. Keep winning!
Thank you, Steve. This is so true and a policy all champions need to embrace. Looking forward to more.
