There’s NO such thing as FAILURE!
Now, you’re probably thinking:
“What are you talking about there’s no failures Steve?”
There isn’t. Failure is an illusion. There’s no such thing. There is only feedback.
I’ll explain why.
When you’re doing anything in life, you are either going to get a good response or a bad response…
… a result you want or a result you don’t.
This applies in building a business, getting paid to do what you love, raising your family, being in a loving relationship with that special someone etc.
When something happens that you don’t like, or when something happens in a way that you didn’t expect, often people think they have FAILED and often beat themselves up about it:
- “I messed up.”
- “I didn’t secure more clients.”
- “I’m not good enough.”
- “I’m such a failure.”
Then they STOP trying. And of course, if you stop trying, you fail. Because the only true failure is when you stop.
What’s a more USEFUL way to relate to what most of us think is FAILURE?
DELETE the word FAILURE
INSERT the word FEEDBACK.
When you take any result (positive or negative) as feedback, you can LEARN from it rather than being STUCK with it. This is a big deal. We can ask ourselves the following questions in order:
- Okay, I’ve just done this, and it didn’t work.
- Okay, what did work (if any)?
- Okay, what could have worked better?
- Now, what would I like?
Part of this process is accepting what is. Just saying, “Okay. That happened. I didn’t like it. It didn’t feel good. But it happened for whatever reason or not, and now we have to take that feedback.”
The feedback then teaches us what worked, what didn’t, so we can move on and focus on what we do want. Now you can move forward. Now you can get away from that negativity.
You’re just getting feedback and you’re doing it better and you’re doing it better and you’re doing it better and momentum occurs.
The MORE we LEARN, the FASTER we get at ACHIEVING our goals!
Let me give you an example.
Suppose you tried to grow your business to six-figures in the last year …
But you missed out but $5,000.
Going through the process, you can do this:
- Okay, I missed out on my goal by $5,000.
- What did work, was I managed to secure $95,000.
- What didn’t work was I was trying to grow my business all myself, and do all the delivery, so I ran out of time and energy.
- What I could have done is hired a coach or delegated some tasks to a contractor, so I could focus on growing my business.
- I would like to focus on securing more clients and doing less of the delivery. That way I can have more business and more life.
When you’re doing this, you’re creating momentum. You’re doing things and you’re doing things differently and better, instead of staying stagnant: “I failed.”
The secret to having MORE SUCCESS is actually MAKING MORE CHOICES
The more you choose the better you get at choosing.
It’s that simple!
Try it out and let me know how you go!
