I’ve always enjoyed the trails. I would go for a walk, a run, or simply an excursion to connect with the planet.
About 2 weeks ago, I suddenly felt like going for a run or jog. I really wanted to sweat and get my heart rate up. I felt ready and knew if my body wouldn’t be able to take that yet, then I would just revert back to walking.
I felt like my balance was ready to go for a run. I felt like I could do it. However, I didn’t know how it would turn out. Through this process when I pushed my body, my muscles would cramp up. Nonetheless, I went for it. I managed to run a mile before I walked and it felt pretty good.
Shortly after starting my run I felt my quads tighten up. Remembering what would happen when I used to run, I gave it a little longer. In the past, my body would tighten up for a few minutes and then eventually loosen up. So that gave me the assurance to keep going and my muscles did relax into a rhythm.
I ran a little over a mile, then walked a mile, ran again and walked some more. Overall, I ran & walked 4.2 miles. (Over 6k) I ran a little more than half of it.
I’m really happy that I did it and grateful that I was able to do it.
Still, I gave my body some room to recover. I do my best to listen to my body and take things slow.
“Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.”
This day was a big day for me. It was surely a test of balance and also more about trying new/old things with my body. And it was a success! I gained even more confidence. I know there’s still much more left to do so I will continue working on my energy and endurance.
Step by step, you can go anywhere.
