Mindset is a matter of focus, and the desires we focus on define our behavior. In business, most entrepreneurs use money as a motivator, and their behavior inches toward workaholism as a result. Today I’ll talk about the difference between money-driven and mission-driven mindset, and how the latter will guide you toward a more balanced, joyful life. Tune in to learn my magic question that rapidly reconnects you with your powerful, purpose-driven motivators!

Steve Napolitan: Welcome to More Business, More Life Daily. And this week we’re talking about mindset and this, I want to talk today about how do we build the mindset to have the business that we want.
So I find often that a lot of people are building businesses to make money or even maybe it’s ego to build a business, to get to a certain level, to have a certain number of employees, to rave to their friends or different things. And that sometimes is the worst because we’re building for all the wrong reasons. And then even for money, sometimes we think, oh that’s what we’re doing because then we can have what we want. But the money is not actually what you want. Money is never really what you want. I mean, for some people, maybe that’s all they think about, but really what is the money going to buy you? Why do you want more money? Even if it is you want a whole bunch of money in the bank, then what are you looking for? You’re probably looking for security, peace of mind that you know that you could take care of yourself, whether money was coming in or not. So what you actually want is security.
Now, money might be part of the answer to that, but you’ve got to ask yourself, when you’re looking for what you want, what will having that do for you? What will having that do for you? That is a key question. And this allows us to find what we’re doing. Whether you’re in a career or you have your own business, what we’re doing matters to our life and to our own mindset. And a lot of times this all comes back to mindset. We think we have to do these other things.
Now I want to tell you, like when I started doing personal growth, personal development, working on myself, working on my mindset, a big part of my thought was for me to become better so I could be a better person. But the reality that I’ve found now after doing over a decade of deep development on myself and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, no joke, to work with other coaches, mentors, workshops, going to events in and all the books and programs that I’ve done, what I’ve found is I’ve found that it’s allowed me to let go of all the layers of armament, all the things that other people told me who to be, what to be as I was growing up, and to actually listen to what I really want deep down. And that inside myself has what’s allowed me to become the man that I am today. And I want to encourage all of you to really think about, are you doing this for you or are you doing it for somebody else?
Now I have a family too. You might say, oh, well it’s for my family. Well, yeah, I have my family as well. I have my children and I do know that a big part of being with my wife, being with my children is very, very important. But I also know to be mission driven, that I have something that I’m meant to help people. I want to help as many people have the freedom they desire. I want to change the way that we live and work. I think it’s no longer okay to like work until we’re old people and then have, and I mean that in the nicest way. But I’m not going to wait until I’m in a wheelchair and my body doesn’t work well to then finally be able to live life. I want to live life now. So it’s not okay to like work really, really hard and then have something. Like we need to … Every decade of your life, you should be enjoying it too.
And so that’s part of the mission that I have and I’ve found how to do that myself and now I want to teach as many people that as well. And it’s important for my children to see that I’m working on a cause, that I’m doing something important that I really feel is important to me. And something else may be important to you. What is that? But then not allowing that to … Now if this is all you want, there are some people that are so career-driven they don’t have a family. But just be really careful. Like if you look, a lot of people that have been so career, when they do pass, if they have spoken these words, like you can even look at Steve Jobs. He said he wished he could have like, spent more time with love and relationships. There are many people that have looked back and even, you look at our elders and they’re saying, time goes really fast. Don’t miss a moment. They’re trying to tell us live now, like as they get older and we’re like, ah, yeah, I will. Yeah, sure thing, grandma.
But the reality is there’s so much truth. So I want you to shift your mindset. It is possible, everything is possible. Look at the things you’ve done in your life. I suppose you’ve gone through challenges. I suppose you’ve had things that you didn’t know how you’re going to solve and you figured it out. We all have had those moments, whether they’re small or big, and just think about if you want something and you’re not sure how to get there, then you can figure it out. And one way to do that like I have is find mentors, people that have already done it before and ask for their guidance and other times just by seeking, you can find the right book or the right pathway on your own as well. So it’s a lot faster with mentors I find, but ultimately you’ve just got to start seeking for it.
If you think that you’re doing a job that you don’t like right now or you’re building a business that you don’t like right now just to generate revenue, so then you can have what you want. I want you to seriously examine what’s going on and ask yourself, what do I want? And what will having that do for me? Those two simple questions can change your mindset around what you want. And now push yourself to figure out the path. We can figure it out. And if you don’t know how, you can even ask me or others, what do you think, Steve? And I’m here for you. So as always, put your comments, questions below, connect with us on social media. I look forward to continuing to serve you and we’ll see you on tomorrow’s video. As always, remember, choose gratitude and create freedom.
