“You need to design your life and build a business around that life.”
– Steve Napolitan
Good friends of mine for many, many years and we were just talking about lifestyle. Today, my good friends and entrepreneurs Robyn Crane and Trevor Crane are going to share some simple tips on how you can have the life you want while building a business around it.
You don’t have to wait. You don’t have to build a business then say, “Oh, then I’ll have the life you want.”
No. The formula is the reverse. You need to design your live then build a business that supports it.
So, here are three tips from our video that you can use immediately so you can have more life and time freedom, all while having a successful business that you love!
Tip 1: Do Two Things at Once
Trevor brought up an interesting point. You can get paid using your holiday time. Especially if your business and what you do is something you love (because it should be).
For example, in this video, Robyn and Trevor were having a vacation with me in Marin County (they live on the East Coast) and we are recording a video that can be useful for our audience and gives our businesses exposure.
This isn’t the first time we have done that. We were in Puerto Rico on holiday when we were making videos for our businesses and adding value to our audience.
You can showcase your lifestyle and teach what you live!
I’ve been applying Trevor’s tip for years. In the last 12 months, my business grew exponentially while I was having more family time. In fact, my wife even looked at me when we were on a road trip and said, “Um, are we okay? Like, you’re home a lot. Are we still going to have deposits?”
The answer: YES 😊
Tip 2: Leverage Your Time by Investing Your Money
I don’t mean investing in a stock or some financial vehicle. That’s a whole separate thing. But what Robyn brought to attention in our discussion was the BIGGEST thing that made an impact on her life and business was to spend marketing dollars to attain more customers rather than having to sell everything herself.
Not everyone is ready for that. But Robyn said that she looks at what she spends on living expenses, and what she has spare she invests towards marketing. That’s the risk she took. And boom, she doubled her income multiple times. Her income exponentiated!
Robyn believes in spending marketing dollars. There are other ways to do it. I always say, it’s either money or time. You can do both, but you can put money towards marketing and getting clients, or, you can put time in.
TIP 3: Get a Mentor
I’ve had mentors for so long, for so many years. I don’t even know how anyone has any success without a mentor. Because mentors can show you the path they have already taken or helped others take. It saves you years of heartache, trial, and error.
Before getting a mentor, for over a decade, I worked and worked and worked, trying to figure it out on my own. And finally, about a decade ago, I started getting mentors and it’s dramatically changed my life forever.
I always thought, if I even got to talk to a high school group and the last question the teacher asked me, he said, “Steve, what’s two words you’d tell your younger self if you could go back to you in high school?” I would say, “Get mentors! Why reinvent something if you can find someone that already has it and you can follow what they’ve done and then spice it up, put a little flavor of you in there, but get there first?”
I hope you enjoyed this short and sweet post! Again, if you have any comments or questions, post below!
